Meet Corey Sr.
Corey C. Mercer, Sr. is no stranger to public service. With a distinguished career marked by dedication and commitment, he has served his country, community, and youth with unwavering passion. An Army veteran with two combat tours under his belt, Corey has demonstrated courage and resilience in the face of adversity. His military experience has undoubtedly shaped his leadership skills and his deep understanding of service and sacrifice.
Following his military career, Corey continued his service as a Firefighter in the Rocky Mount Fire Department. After several years of service, Corey became the first African American Fire Chief of the City of Rocky Mount. In this role, he was responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, leading his team with integrity and professionalism. His tenure as Fire Chief not only highlighted his capability in crisis management but also his unwavering commitment to public safety and community welfare.
Beyond his roles in the military and fire service, Corey has made significant contributions to education and youth development. As an educator and coach with Nash and Wilson Counties, he has inspired and guided countless young minds. His dedication to fostering growth and development in the youth extends to his involvement on the Executive Board for Community in Schools and The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region. Through these positions, Corey has played a pivotal role in supporting and enriching the lives of young people, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement needed to succeed.
Although Corey has carried many titles, the greatest of them is Daddy and PaCho. He is the loving father of five daughters & one son and the proud grandfather of one grandson.
